How Are You Doing Taking Care of Yourself?
When was the last time you took a day off? I mean really took a day off? No work calls, no work emails, no work at all? If you can’t remember, then it’s time to change your self-care planning! Working in the pet care industry can be emotional. Our love of animals creates extended relationships with pet parents we come to know as family, dogs we learn to love as our own, and a staff that we interact with day in and day out on a personal level. It’s a great job full of great people. But it can be draining too. All the emotional energy output can take a toll on the business owner, especially on days when things don’t go well.
On top of caring for your business, you find yourself juggling the emotional realities of dogs who may be sick or behaving inappropriately, staff who may be frustrated, and pet parents who are sometimes frazzled. Its no wonder so few business owners find time for themselves. Burnout can be high in this type of environment and it’s important that business owners be aware of their potential for burnout.
This month, we have created a very quick and easy Self Assessment you can take to see how well you are taking care of yourself. This is an easy way to take an honest look at the the past few months of your life.
How are you doing? Are there areas where you could improve? Be honest. Self-care is vital. It sounds like a tired cliché but it really is true: If you aren’t taking care of yourself, you cant’ take care of others…and that means you also can’t take care of your staff, the dogs, the pet parents or your business.
Schedule some time this week to take time for yourself. To help get you started, we’ve created a month of self-care ideas! Check out our Self Care Calendar.
