Maximize Holiday Revenues
Peak periods are the perfect time to upsell other products and services. Review our upsell ideas in this blog to ensure you don’t miss out bringing extra cash to your business this holiday season.
- During your reservation call confirmations ask if an exit bath or spa service is needed if not already booked
- Confirm dogs that do not join off-leash playgroups have individual activities or packages booked during their stay
- Sell a special dinner or treat that will be served to the pets on the holiday
Special holiday dinners are a big hit with your pet parents as they love knowing their pet is sharing in the holiday feast traditions. A great tool for upselling these dinners is to have a sample plate at your front desk during check-in. Yes, this means you may need to make your sample meals a couple of days in advance, but it is worth it to boost sales.
Preparing holiday meals can be as extravagant as roasting a turkey for the pets or purchasing a pre-made treat or munch box.
I’m also sharing an easy meal prep recipe that was very popular at Urban Tails and digested well by the dogs.
- Main Course – bake raw diet nuggets (turkey for Thanksgiving & beef for Christmas; e.g., Nature’s Variety or Primal)
- Special sauce – cooked cranberries sweetened slightly with honey for Thanksgiving and beef gravy for Christmas
- Veggie Risotto – dice vegetable (sweet potato for Thanksgiving & beets for Christmas) and bring to boil in 3-4 quarts water in a stock pot. Add a cup of brown rice and 2 cups oats and reduce heat. Simmer until grains absorb water.
- Home baked cookie treat
- The afternoon before the holiday we used an assembly line to prep the meals. Names of dogs and enclosure number were written on paper food tray. Meal was added to try and inserted into a quart zip-lock baggie. Stack meals on trays and store in fridge for quick serving on holiday.
- Take photos during prep and when serving to share on social media
Have fun with your holiday treat marketing and ensure you price the meal service to make a profit. The sample flyer was from 2005 so cost of our party had increased to $10 by 2012. Our clients looked forward to the meals and we enjoyed the fun and extra $500+ profit from the service.
