Is Your Daycare Environment Enriching?

More than likely your daycare or off leash play environment is well supervised by well-trained staff members.  And hopefully you have a safe play area that allows dogs to have fun. But is your daycare environment actually enriching to the dogs?

Environmental enrichment is about more than just giving the dogs something to do. Good environmental enrichment will enhance the dog’s stay at your facility by:

  • Allowing him to use his brain to figure out how to control his environment
  • Exercise both his body and his mind while problem solving
  • Stimulate natural dog behaviors and provide an outlet for the dog to practice them

This month’s bonus item is a Guide to Environmental Enrichment.  We’ve taken our favorite activities and put them in a chart that helps you pick the best ones to implement.  You can choose activities based on dog difficulty (easy, moderate, or hard); staffing needs (something the dog can do alone, or something that requires constant supervision) and/or supply costs.  And stay tuned for the rest of this month’s blog posts where we’ll help you learn how to teach these activities to your staff and the dogs!
