What to Do about Fights and Bites
As another daycare day comes to an end, you send another dog back home to a pet parent who invariably expresses the common belief that “Your job must be so much fun because you get to play with dogs all day.” You sigh and smile. Of course, being surrounded by dogs all day can be great fun. But it’s an incredible responsibility, too. And inside all great pet care facility owners is a dreaded fear of a possible fight or bite incident in your daycare.
The Dog Gurus spend most of our time focused on good staff training and a good evaluation process because those two steps are the best things you can do to prevent dog fights. However, we still get asked a series of questions that look like this:
- What happens if dogs fight?
- How do I separate the dogs?
- Should I take dogs to the vet?
- Who pays the vet bill?
- How do I tell the owner?
- Should I kick the dog out?
So for this month, we’ve decided to give you a full length, one-hour presentation Robin did on this subject. It will answer all those questions better than a brief blog.
Take time to listen to this 6 part series (each part is about 10 minute) or download the whole thing onto your computer.
