Better onboarding and training is a game changer in keeping your staff. We know hiring has been tough lately. So once you get a great employee you want to keep them.

You may be surprised to learn that staff onboarding systems should be planned for a minimum of ninety days up to one year. Onboarding is the time needed to develop a fully functioning team member operating at your peak level of job expectations. As you assess your onboarding system consider the following aspects:

  1. Orientation to your business – generally done in the first two weeks of employment
  2. Formal staff training for specific job role – best completed over 30 – 90 days
  3. Feedback and coaching – needed until new hire is performing at peak level of job expectations

The objective of your onboarding system is to show your new hires that they are valuable team members and set them up for success in their new job role. Two key aspects to include is a great first day and social interactions with existing team members. It is very important to retaining you’re a-team players that you are organized and prepared for their first day. You will also want to include informal opportunities for them to get to know their new team members as soon as possible.
